From Donigian Park to Waterplace Park you can canoe without interuption down the Woonasquatucket River. Promenade is one of the streets you would paddle alongside of. From the street on Promenade you might not even notice the river, but it was the reason that the entire area was developed by the mills and factories who needed the river for power, and unfortunately, at times, used the river for a dumping ground. Today we must help clean the river and keep it clean!

Mayor Cianci's New Cities initiative targets the Promenade area for economic redevelopment. The Woonasquatucket River Greenway is a perfect complement to the Mayor's initiative and will run along Promenade St.
